The winners of the 2025 Netherlands Government Awards have been announced! Slim Strandnet finished second, or third, we’ll never know. At least the claim of open source was mentioned three times by the jury, so that was us together with Kersten Techniek!

The festive awards ceremony took place at the Royal Theatre in The Hague. Presenter Dwight van van der Vijver hosted the ceremony, while Dutch Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations Frank Rijkaart emphasised the importance of a consistent and cohesive government approach in his speech, “In the Light of Leadership and Innovation.”

Of course we congratulate VoorRecht-Rechtspraak (For Justice-Judiciary) as the winner of the Best Government Innovation of the Year 2025. The Hans Dijkstal Award went to Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg. Diemer Kransen, General Manager and Regional Fire Commander of the North and East Gelderland Safety Region, received the title of Government Manager of the Year 2025.

The finalists were also recognised. For the Best Government Innovation of the Year 2025 award the finalists were: Slim Strandnet (Municipality of The Hague) and Data Accounting (Ministry of Justice and Security). This also applies to the finalists for the Public Sector Manager of the Year 2025 award, Maarten van Aalst (Chief Executive Officer, KNMI) and Vincent Bergsma (Secretary-Director, Hollandse Delta Water Board). Their inspiring commitment ensures that the Netherlands as a whole moves forward.

As OpenRemote we also like to thank the City of The Hague as well as Stedin, for submitting the Slim Strandnet. We feel it as recognition for all the hard work by the OpenRemote team.
